No gardening today thanks to industrial quantities of rain. This gauge measurement just now at Bruton Dam, upstream of us, was the second highest ever reading. Very grateful for the dam and its protection of our garden.
Firing up the Quattro – ok, firing up a sleeping blog isn’t quite the same thing. Still, Day 2, eh?
More perennial chopping and detailed weeding done in the hot beds today.
All change – day 1 of resurrected blog
The camera on my phone is misbehaving but yes, it was also pretty gloomy here today. Working on the hot beds in the main garden. The dahlias are all dug up and put away. I’ve done the main chop back of the perennials in these beds and am now titivating them: roses pruned, salvias dug up for overwintering in polytunnel, and am doing a detailed weed especially of the central delphinium clumps which will need covering in sharp sand before the surrounding tulips and wallflowers can be planted.
Giving the nasturtiums a Brazilian
Trimming the nasturtiums back to their allotted narrow strip is luckily a relatively painless process.
Catching up

Poppies
These are not mine, but by Georgia O’Keeffe. I went to visit them on Monday with a dear friend and was reminded that my own oriental poppies need attention after flowering. I cut them to the ground yesterday when the temperature soared to over 85 degrees. Because they have those highly irritant prickles I had to do so in arm length gauntlets which was not ideal clothing under such weather conditions. They will sprout quickly especially if I remember to give them a watering and liquid feed tomorrow (forgot today!)
Keeping on weeding
Two and a half beds to go – in the lower half of the veg patch, at least. Am not letting myself think about upper half yet 😉
